3 Design Trends for Home Theaters

So many people have dreamed of having a home theater. Now it’s time to make that dream your reality.

Adding a theater is an exciting addition to any house. With state-of-the-art sound systems and crystal-clear images, a home theater can make you feel like you are right in the middle of all of the action and adventure.

Before you get started building yours, be sure to check out these three design trends to improve your home theater experience and comfort.

Supersize Your Furniture

Oversized cushioned chairs will make your movie-watching experience more enjoyable. If you want to mimic the design of a real theater, you can do that too! We work with designers to give you authentic theater furniture that’s comfortable too. You can even get leather recliners!

Above all else, your theater should be comfortable. So avoid trying to pack in as many seats as you can. Instead, if you’re worried about space, just get a couple of chairs and look into comfortable mats or beanbag chairs for extra seating.

Focus on the Walls

Did you know that your walls actually play a large part in your movie-watching experience?

Concrete walls distort and reflect the sound. If you have concrete walls, look into putting drywall over them. This will help achieve the sound effect you want.

Another crucial aspect of the walls is their color. Paint your walls a dark color — the darker, the better. Lighter colors tend to reflect light and can be distracting to the eyes during the movie.

You’ll also want to make sure you’re using matte paint. Gloss and semi-gloss paints will also reflect the images.

Lastly, try to cover up your windows. The extra light from the windows can cast a glare on your screen. Plus, the drapes will help absorb some of the ambient sound.

Design with the Sound in Mind

While the screen is one of the most important parts of a good movie experience, the room layout really won’t affect it much. Sound, on the other hand, is extremely impacted by the room design and speaker locations.

Take some time to plan speaker placement. Ideally, you’ll want to have them equal distance from your ears. A technician can help you determine the best layout.
