Outdoor Entertainment Themes: Weather, Furnishings, Storage

by AVI Systems

In part one of this two-part blog series, we went over some of the basic settings and TV size options for building an outdoor entertainment center on your property. Today's technology makes it easy to set up these kinds of robust outdoor entertainment centers, and there are a few things you should be thinking about as you go about this process.

At AVI Systems, outdoor entertainment solutions are just some of the numerous home automation services we're happy to provide to clients around Salt Lake City, Draper, and nearby areas. While part one of our series went over setting options and TV size, today's part two will look at some additional considerations for any outdoor entertainment setup.

Protection From the Elements

While it's true that technology has improved a ton in recent years, especially for TVs and electronics, we're not yet at the point where these kinds of items can withstand the elements outside. This means that you need to be taking some extra steps as you plan out your outdoor entertainment setup in order to protect your equipment.

For starters, make sure that any TV or other equipment used is designed for outdoor use. For another, even among those models that are, you still need protection from universal no-nos like rain, hail, and snow.

The best way to do this is with a protective covering, either something like a waterproof tarp or even a full-on outdoor enclosure. The latter of these two options is the more expensive solution, but it can also be better designed for your particular application, making it well worth considering if you're serious about keeping your electronics safe from any damage or similar risks.

Furnishing Considerations

For many people, the top question when it comes to furnishing an outdoor entertainment space is this: Should I follow the same aesthetic as my indoor space, or should I go with something new and different?

While there's no right answer to this question, it's worth thinking through both options before you make a decision. Going with the same kind of aesthetic as your indoor space will make everything feel more cohesive and harmonious. That said, it may also feel very much like bringing the indoors outside, which could be more of a challenge if you're working with a brick-and-mortar space.

Organization and Storage

As you're planning out your outdoor entertainment space, make sure you keep an eye on organization and storage. The last thing you want is a cluttered and unorganized area that could be hazardous to guests or even just generally unpleasant to spend time in.

Think through what kind of elements will be in your space (like seating or other areas), and make sure that you have some kind of organization and storage plan to manage any items that will be brought in and out. This could be anything from small tables with drawers to large cabinets, depending on what your particular space needs.

At AVI Systems, we understand that every outdoor entertainment space is unique and requires a custom solution. That's why we work closely with clients to design, build and install the perfect system for their particular needs.
