Modern technology allows for numerous improvements in our lives, and one of these is the extension of certain previously indoor-only activities to the beautiful outdoors. One common such approach is the installation of a TV and entertainment center somewhere outside your property, and you have a number of concepts available to you if this is your desired route.
At AVI Systems, we're happy to provide outdoor entertainment setups to clients around SLC and Draper as part of our broader home automation solutions. We install beautiful, long-lasting 4K UHD televisions, plus detailed sound and video complement to ensure a premium experience. This two-part blog series will look at some of your various options and tips for setting up and maintaining a great outdoor entertainment center.
Setting Options
Firstly, for those placing an outdoor TV and entertainment setup on their property, there are a few major options for the setting in which this setup is placed:
- Above a patio:Â Installing a TV in your patio area is another viable option. Here, you can usually use existing wall fixtures to hang the television, plus seating nearby ensures that you have a comfortable and enjoyable time watching your shows.
- By the pool:Â If you have a pool in your backyard, that's another excellent spot for installing an outdoor TV. There are plenty of waterproof options available to ensure longevity and reliability for the television, plus this setup allows for easy access when swimming or lounging around on hot days.
- Near a grill station:Â A final option is to install an outdoor TV near a grill station, so you and your friends can watch while enjoying some great grilled food. Here too, the elevated setting makes for particularly beautiful views when enjoying your television of choice.
- Above a fireplace: Outdoor fireplaces are another set of items that are growing heavily in popularity, and these are a great option for installing an outdoor TV – the area above the fire is protected from the elements while also providing a warm and inviting setting.

Choosing the Ideal TV Size
As you're considering the setup of your outdoor TV and entertainment center, bear in mind that the size of the TV you choose is important – too large, and it may feel out of place; too small, and some viewers may struggle to make out details. Generally speaking, for an outdoor setup like this one, consider TVs ranging from 40 inches upward. That should easily provide a large enough display for all viewers while also not feeling overly dominant in your outdoor space.
Ultimately, whatever option you go for, make sure that you choose one that fits with the overall look and feel of your backyard or patio area – and don't forget to invest in good waterproofing materials too!
