There are several home design and layout trends that have become quite popular in recent years, and one great example here is the concept of minimalism. And if you prefer a minimalist design to your home, one that involves limited clutter and simple features that still get the job done in all the areas you need, there are several ways that home automation may assist you.
At AVI Systems, we're proud to offer a huge range of home automation features and services for clients around Draper and Salt Lake City, from home networking to video surveillance, lighting control, entertainment, and much more. In this two-part blog series, we'll go over some of the common features or uses of home automation among those who are going for a minimalist home, including some tips on how smart home features make this process simpler.
Defining Minimalism - Physical and Otherwise
As we're discussing minimalism, it's important to remember that this concept - while initially meant for physical possessions and home design - has come to mean several other things as well. In particular, many who embrace minimalism try to minimize their impact on the environment, assisting with small actions like recycling or avoiding excessive energy use. Furthermore, minimalism can extend to areas like convenience and peace of mind.
With this in mind, it's not surprising that modern smart homes are built with minimalism in mind. The systems used by AVI Systems are designed to be sustainable, convenient, and helpful in daily life. Our next several sections will go over some top examples.
Smart Sensors
From a broad standpoint, some of the most useful home automation devices for minimalism are those that involve smart sensors. These sensors, which are available in both wired and wireless formats, gather data from various parts of the home - this includes temperature, lighting levels, humidity, and several others.
They then automatically make adjustments to these areas to maintain the preferred settings with no input required from you. In addition, smart sensors also have capabilities such as detecting movement, so you can program them to turn off lights or lower the temperature in a room when no one is present.
Front Door Entry System
Depending on the specific area you're looking to minimize in your home, you may find that having an automated front door entry system can be hugely helpful. This is an aspect of home automation we commonly help clients with - automated entry allows for keyless access to your home using a digital lock, and it's often integrated with smart security features like cameras or alarms.
In part two of our series, we'll look at a few other areas where home automation and minimalism intersect, plus some additional tips for how to use our various systems here at AVI Systems to make your life easier in the minimalist vein. Stay tuned, and be sure to contact our team in the meantime for any home automation products or services you're looking into!
